The Day of the Security Service of Ukraine is a professional holiday of national importance, which is celebrated precisely on the twenty-fifth of March. On this date, people who serve and work in the SBU are congratulated. Most often, it is on this date that higher officials award military personnel with diplomas and awards for service and loyalty to the state. The Security Service of Ukraine is a special purpose body. Employees of the SBU perform law enforcement activities and stand guard to guarantee the state security of Ukraine.

The SBU, as a special service, was officially established in 1992 on March 25. The main goals of the organization were to defend and ensure the sovereignty of the state, the constitutional system, as well as the territorial unity of the country. Units that were created in the structure of the security service — intelligence and counter-intelligence, counter-terrorism, anti-bribery unit, military counter-intelligence, resistance to organized crime and others. The department actively developed and cooperated with international organizations.
The professional holiday of SBU employees appeared in 2001 — the month of March. The Day of the Security Service of Ukraine was established by the decree of the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma.

The country's security service cooperates with various organizations — special services of sixty countries, specialized structures, more than a hundred law enforcement agencies, international organizations such as NATO, OSCE, EU, UN;

A statue of the "Cossack-victor" symbolizing the structure has been installed near the building of the Security Service.
During its existence, the Security Service had many disturbances and transformations. The new difficulties faced by Ukraine prompt the Service to new reforms, the greatest mobilization of forces and reserves, the search for trajectories of solving the extremely complex tasks of the modern age, and careful preparation for the future.
Long-term reform of the SBU
The process of reforming the special services started in 2019 — the law on the Security Service of Ukraine was drafted. The main goal was to set new priorities and organize the work of the SBU so that it was as effective as possible. The reform was supposed to create effective mechanisms for the service to better respond to the threats that appear in the modern world. As an example, resist aggression from the Russian Federation. The main innovations proposed in this draft law:
Cyber security;
Protection of state secrets;
Fight against terrorism.
In contrast to the current organizational structure of the Security Service of Ukraine, during the sixteen years the Security Service consisted of: state security bodies of the highest official ranks (until 1998), on their basis, the State Security Office of Ukraine, institutions and units of foreign intelligence with military units of radio-electronic intelligence were created on their basis (until 2005) , the Foreign Intelligence Service was founded, as well as departments and units of special telecommunications systems for information protection with subordinate government communications troops (until 2007), the State Service for Special Communications and State Information Protection was launched.
The personnel of the SBU is divided into conscripts, employees who have entered into an employment contract with the SBU, as well as conscripts. Servicemen of the SBU are divided into officers, sergeants and senior officers, as well as soldiers. Military ranks are assigned to military personnel.
