April 30 — Border Guard Day

Borders between countries arose a long time ago. Each state has always tried to preserve its identity, which is why special attention was paid to the integrity of the line (border) separating one society from another. The main feature of the state is the territory, which is clearly defined and protected. The borders of Ukraine are protected by the State Border Service. There is even a separate professional holiday — Border Guard Day, which is celebrated in the spring.

Who are border guards and when is border guard day

Border guards are those people who stand in the way of preserving the integrity and well-being of Ukraine. A huge number of works of art are devoted to the bravery and courage of the guards of the state's borders. Many boys and young men dreamed and dream of becoming a border guard. In our country, there are many legends about the heroism and intelligence of defenders of state borders.

Everyone involved was congratulated on Border Guard Day in the Soviet Union - May 28. This professional day has been celebrated for a long time, precisely in May, even when Ukraine became an independent state, and this date became fixed among the people. 1992 - by decree of the President of Ukraine, the holiday of the border guard was moved to autumn, namely the fourth of November. Only in 2018, P. Poroshenko signed a decree to postpone the day of celebration to the end of April. April 30 is Border Guard Day — the day when the State Border Service of Ukraine was founded.

Borders were finally formed in the nineteenth century at the level of interstate relations. They were established according to geographical and ethnic principles. Types of borders:

  • Natural — along natural boundaries (rivers, mountains, ridges or forests);

  • Artificial — when creating military engineering lines of fortifications.

In most cases, countries have combined borders — natural, geometric, and astronomical. There are several types of international borders:

  1. Open is the lack of regulated movement of subjects between states, a large number of countries have exactly this type of borders for travel. For example, these are the countries of the European Union, such borders were common among many peoples of the world, but the First World War made its adjustments in the regulation of open borders;

  2. Regulated - these sections of border lines have different levels of control over people moving. A large number of developed countries have certain rules for entering the country, as well as some procedures: checking visas, passports, as well as customs documents. There are also rules for crossing the border with wild animals and transporting plants, border rules and regulations may be changed by the authorities of one or another country;

  3. Demilitarized is a border that separates two or more nations. A demilitarized zone can act as a war boundary, a wildlife sanctuary, or a cease-fire line. A striking example of a demilitarized border is North and South Korea.

Border Guard Day 2024 will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30. During the full-scale attack of the Russian Federation on February 24, the border guards were the first to meet the aggressor. These brave boys and girls protected the borders of our Motherland at the cost of their lives. Today, Border Guard Day in Ukraine is a special holiday. The main mission of the bureau is defense against any attempts to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine, armed incidents and other provocations at the border. Defensive actions are carried out in cooperation with the Armed Forces

By the forces of Ukraine and other military formations in repelling aggression or invasion on the territory of Ukraine by other states or groups.

Starting from 2001, the reform of the border guarding bodies of Ukraine was started, thanks to which in July 2003, the border troops of Ukraine were renamed the State Border Service of Ukraine.

A lot of work has been done over the years:

  • organizational and practical measures of transfer to the new organizational and staffing structure of units and units of the Border Troops of Ukraine were carried out;

  • new normative acts on the organization of operational and service activities of border units were approved;
