The International Theater Day

According to officially confirmed historical data, the first theatrical productions date back to about 500 BC, which makes the theater one of the oldest areas of art in general. But despite such "antiquity", it still hasn't lost its relevance, as the International Theater Day reminds us every year. And online.yua will now tell you more about this holiday and its history, as well as tell you some relevant greetings on this significant day for many people.

History of World Theater Day

In 1948, the International Theater Institute - Institut international du théâtre - was founded in Prague (then Czechoslovakia) on the initiative of UNESCO. An organization designed to establish cooperation between theaters of different countries. And in 1961, at the 9th Congress of this organization, a decision was made to organize World Theater Day.

And next year, on March 27, this holiday was officially celebrated for the first time. Why exactly on this date? And it just happened that way. No historical events or prerequisites related to theatrical art were attached to this day. But it turned out well, so now March 27 is officially World Theater Day.

One of the most interesting traditions of this holiday is an address by a prominent theater actor to the world public. The first to do it in 1962 was the French writer, screenwriter and director Jean Cocteau. And this year, Jun Fosse, a Norwegian writer and playwright, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature, will deliver a speech.

As for Ukraine specifically, the World Theater Day has been celebrated here since 1959, when a branch of the International Theater Institute was founded in Moscow. However, Ukraine is still not officially a member of this organization. At least it is not present in the lists on the website of this organization. Although we seem to have a regional branch of it. However, due to current events and the growing interest in Ukrainian culture in the world, the situation may change very soon.

However, all this does not prevent our theaters from actively celebrating World Theater Day with various promotions, open days and, of course, premieres. And although this day is not a holiday, there are always enough people at the events dedicated to it, because theater is the same art direction that will never get old or be forgotten!

Let the legendary Spirit of the theater

He will save you from troubles,

Will warm your soul with excitement,

Success will bring faith.

Happy Theater Day,

Let the full hall applaud.

Let your talent inspire us,

It is given to you as a reward.

Love, Trust, Prosper

Live happily, dream

Give joy, beauty,

Show a cool game on stage.

***

Backstage, ramp lights and you are on stage.

And now the quiet hall is watching

By your every word and movement.

Then - flowers, a flurry of applause.

And again for a while the scenes are lowered,

But we will wait to meet you again.

Greetings to you all, actors and actresses,

Thanks for playing and keep it up!

***

Shining sun from the sky scene,

Pulling back the gray curtain from the clouds,

For you, faithful servant of Melpomene,

Send your warm spring ray to the holiday,

Let inspiration flow like a river,

And joy brought out the bird's trill,

And turnovers with each performance

The carousel was gaining success!

Let love not be an act of hypocrisy,

Burning in the soul with an unquenchable fire,

And light to you and your family

The soffits of happiness are brighter every day!

Conclusion

International Theater Day is not just another professional holiday, but an occasion to remember the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine. After all, many of our great poets and writers worked, in particular, in the genre of theatrical drama. Plays authored by Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka and other Ukrainian cultural figures still do not lose their relevance. And right now is a great time to remember them again.
